  Arthur Benjamin "Ben" Parker

  Obituary:
ParkerArthur Benjamin "Ben" Parker, Jr.,85, of Leominster, former long time resident of Westford died at home surrounded by his family. Ben was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Lowell, Ma, a son of the late Arthur Benjamin Parker, Sr. and Ruth (D'Mooers) Parker. Mr. Parker attended the Morey School, and the Lowell High school. He graduated from Springfield College with a Masters degree in Physical Education. Mr. Parker served in WW II and was honorably discharged in June, 1946 with a Purple Heart. He was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration where he retired. After retiring, Mr. Parker drove a school bus for many years in Westford. He was devoted to his family and foster children.

Mr. Parker fostered over 230 children through the Florence Crittenson League and DCF of which he was a member for 24 years. He received the "Foster Parent of the Year Award" and "Goldie Rogers Award", the highest Foster Care Award in the State of Massachusetts. Mr. Parker loved sailing and spent many happy hours cruising the coast of New England. He also enjoyed gardening. Besides his wife, Sandra (Saunders) Parker, he is survived by his daughters; Joan Parker Roach of Groton, MA, Christina MacDougall of Astoria OR, sons; Jason Parker of Brentwood, CA, Dustin Parker of Leominster, MA, and Vaughn Parker of Leominster, MA; special foster son, Matthew and step children, Thomas Watson of Los Angeles, CA, Peter Watson of Atkinson, NH and Susan Santos of Leominster, MA. Also, a twin sister, Dorothy (Parker) Gray of Chelmsford, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and 13 grandchildren.
  Visitations:  
Friends may call at The Healy Funeral Home on Thursday, August 5, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
  Services:  
His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at the First Parish Church United, 48 Main Street, Westford.
  Memorials:  
Friends who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to benefit foster children. Contributions made to Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, c/o: Eric Cousineau at DCF, 33 East Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
