  Walter A. Deane
  WalterDeanObituary:
Walter A. Deane, of Westford, formerly of Norwell and Quincy, died on August 27 at home surrounded by his family. He was 87 years of age. Born and raised in Quincy, he and was a graduate of Thayer Academy (1940). He graduated from Harvard University (1943) and Harvard School of Education (1950) with a MS in Secondary School Administration. Walter served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Second World War and Korean Conflict. He taught English and coached at Thayer Academy from 1945-1954. He also taught English at Edgemont School in Scarsdale NY, 1954-55. He worked at EG&G Inc. from 1955-1985. His work there was in technical writing, communications, and public relations. He contributed to the company’s participation the National Atomic Testing Program. He served tours of duty at the Nevada Test Site, and Eniwetok Proving Grounds in 1956 and 1958. He had lived in Westford for 36 years. He enjoyed playing bridge, reading and sports of all kind. He was still playing competitive softball in the over 30 league past the age of 70.

Walter coached and contributed to the Westford Youth Baseball League for many years. Beloved husband of 66 years to Ethel (Foster) Deane and devoted father of Paul F. Deane of Marblehead, Jacqueline A. Deane of Weymouth, Peter G. Deane of Westford, and David W. Deane married to Susan of Nashua NH. He was the Father of the late Nancy McGlinchey. Proud grandfather of Tiffany, Evan, Nicholas, Marybeth, Tyler, Justin, Trevor, Joshua, Jami and Ryan, and Great Grandfather of Shya.
  Services:  
A private burial in the Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday September 4 at the Healy Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham MA 01701-1803.
