  OliveMcKoneObituary:
Olive Lucille (Brown) McKone, 96, recently of Westford, MA died November 19, 2010. Lucille as she preferred, was a loving wife to the late Edward McKone and married for 46 years. Lucille was born in Syracuse NY on April 4, 1914, daughter of the late Maude (Stabler) and Melvin Brown. She attended Syracuse City Normal School (a Teacher's College) and after graduating in 1934 she proudly became an elementary school teacher "out in the country" in a one-room schoolhouse in Warren, NY. She loved to share her many fun memories of those days with her family and close friends. She met Mr. McKone on a blind date and enjoyed dancing to Big Band music in dance halls in upstate New York. In 1953, they decided to run their own business and bought the Tryon Inn in historic Cherry Valley, NY, then moving to Canajoharie, NY and managed the Canajoharie Hotel (the former Hotel Beechnut) until 1965. A favorite family memory was meeting John F. Kennedy when he stopped at their hotel during his campaign in 1960.

In 1965, they moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL where she worked for Barry Labs and made many friends. Edward passed away in 1986. From 1993 to 1995 Lucille joined her daughter Karen and her husband Ben living full-time in an RV. She loved traveling in the country and working with the Servants-On-Wheels-Ever-Ready (SOWER) ministry. Lucille then settled at Highland Lakes Camp with her daughter Karen and husband Ben for many years and in 2006 permanently settled in Westford. Lucille greatly enjoyed the company of her ten young great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her GG, for Great-Grandma. She is survived by her daughter Karen and husband Ben Cunningham of Spicewood, TX, her daughter Judith Chu of Westford, MA, her grandchildren Kelly and her husband David Skrabanek of Holland, TX; Dave and wife Vareen Cunningham of Bellaire, TX, Ross and wife Mandy Cunningham of Houston, TX, Brian and wife Alison May of Newton, MA; George and his wife Carolyn Chu of Dedham, MA, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by her parents Maude (Stabler) and Melvin Brown, her husband Edward, her brother Herschel Brown and her son-in-law William Chu.
