Margaret T. Blanchard, 90, died peacefully, Friday, March 11, 2011 surrounded by her children and niece, after a short illness. She lived in Westford since 1957, in the same house. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Blanchard, her children; Kevin Blanchard and his wife Lynn Kline of Ashfield, MA, her daughter, Heather Tower and her husband Steven of Northfield, MA, her grandchildren, Christopher and Sara Tower, her sister, Jean Dellert of Gardiner, ME, neices: Annie Raskin of Bennington, VT, Virginia Vaitones and husband Scott of Tenants Harbor, ME, Margaret Carlson and husband Mark of Shirley MA, Lee Quinn and husband Charles of Pembroke, MA, and Sharon Nix and husband Kenneth of Norwood, MA; nephews: William Dellert of Augusta ME, Peter Dellert of Holyoke, MA, Glen Traquair of Nashua, NH, Russell Traquair of Trevett, ME and John Blanchard of Norwood, MA, 5 grandnieces, 5 grandnephews, 1 great grandniece and 2 great grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, George Traquair and his wife, Janet, and her brother-in-law, David Dellert.

Margaret was born September 2, 1920 in Melrose, MA, to Walter Traquair of Edinburgh, Scotland and Georgina Guthrie of Glasgow, Scotland. She attended Salem State College, earning her degree in Special Education in 1942. She taught elementary through high school in Malden and Reading, MA and Stamford, CT from 1942-1951, and finally in Chelmsford and Littleton, MA from 1962-1982. She was a beloved teacher to many and shared her knowledge as and educational advocate volunteer after her retirement. She was involved in many organizations in Westford including the League of Women Voters (a founding member), the Whitney Herrick Society, and the Rodenbush Community Center Board. At the First Parish United Church, she sang in the choir, was a member of Mr. and Mrs., and served on the Prudential Committee. She was also a member of the Lunenburg Women's Club for 10 years. She was a Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary International. Many will remember her school committee luncheons and pre Prom dinners, and the dinners she hosted for local Dartmouth alums. She loved to travel and she and Lloyd made several trips to Scotland, Iceland, France (for the 50th D Day Anniversary) as well as domestic trips, many with Lloyd's Army friends. She loved opera and traveled to NYC to the Met several times a year. Recently she enjoyed the live opera performances at the movie theaters. She also enjoyed the theater and for many years she and Lloyd attended performances in Lowell. She felt she had lived a good life with many wonderful memories. She will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held April 23, at 11 am at the First Parish Church United of Westford.
