Obituary:John G. Shine, Jr. of Westford, died March 30, 2011. He was born in Somerville, MA, November 22, 1922 a son of the late John and Blanche (Sowden) Shine. He was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1940. Mr. Shine was married for thirty eight years to Margaret T. (Flanagan) Shine who passed away in June, 1986 and was the companion of Eleanor (Stone) Manning for eighteen years, who passed away in November 2006. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served as a radio operator on a B-24 Liberator Bomber in the South Pacific. He flew three hundred and forty combat hours, including the longest flight of a B-24 from Northern Australia to Balikpapan, Borneo, taking sixteen hours and thirty minutes to complete. His group was granted a Presidential Citation and he was one of four awarded an Air Medal. Mr. Shine was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He is survived by a niece Dianne Finn Chisholm of CT, three nephews; Albert Finn, III of North Carolina, John Finn of NH and Stephen Finn of Dracut, MA. He is also survived by Linda Manning, a very dear friend of Arlington, Ma, and John and Marylin Crowley of Beverly, MA. He was the brother of the late Mary Finn. |

| Services: A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine's Church, 107 North Main Street, Westford on Monday, April 4th at 10:00 a.m. followed by his burial in Fairview Cemetery, Westford. |
