You know how there is that one person in a room whose light shines the brightest? The one people naturally gravitate toward because she makes everyone feel comfortable, seen, and at ease—the one who can find humor in any moment?
Alison “Ally” Courtney Stone was that person for so many. Ally lost her courageous battle with mental illness on Thursday, April 9, 2026. In doing so, she left an immeasurable hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Born on May 23, 1992, in Concord, Massachusetts, Ally spent her first two decades in nearby Groton, where she enjoyed the simple pleasures of a rural childhood. She was sassy from an early age—when she decided she wanted to quit dance, she showed up to class wearing jeans instead of ballet tights. At that point, both she and her teacher agreed it was time to “hang up” her ballet shoes!
Ally never met a sport she didn’t want to play— soccer, lacrosse, track and field, volleyball, and especially basketball. Alongside her brothers, she spent countless hours with a ball in her hands, honing the feisty, fearless style that defined her game. She deeply valued the camaraderie of sports and especially cherished the time spent together off the court, including team lunches at Chili’s between games!
An incredible empath, Ally was a natural leader. She found joy in coaching basketball, first alongside her dad—her mentor—and later with a bestie, Gillian (“Gin”). She understood her teams of middle school girls in a way that went beyond the court, recognizing their vulnerabilities and the pressures they faced. Always encouraging, she stayed connected with her players through texts and calls, checking in throughout the season. While she always wanted to win games, her true goal ran deeper: to make every girl feel valued, confident, and proud of what she brought to the game.
After her early years in the Groton-Dunstable schools, Ally attended Bishop Guertin High School, where she formed lifelong friendships. She went on to graduate from Providence College with Academic Honors from the School of Health Policy and Management. Ally built a meaningful career in healthcare and held positions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Lowell General Hospital/Tufts Integrated Medicine, and the Veterans Affairs Bedford Healthcare System. She worked full-time while also pursuing her Master of Public Health at Tufts University—a testament to her dedication and drive. Ally was passionate about healthcare and population health. She often led spirited, thoughtful conversations about how the system could better serve patients and families—especially in the area of behavioral health, advocating for a more compassionate, equitable, and accessible system for all.
Most simply and importantly, Ally was a beloved daughter, sister, “momma” to her loving pup, Stella, niece, cousin and friend. She loved spending time with friends and family–just “hanging out”, preferably at the beach, glass of white wine in hand. She knew every word of the 10 minute version of Taylor Swift’s “All too Well”, liked mashed potatoes as a side with mac and cheese, and felt at home in any dog park–anywhere.
Ally will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Kristen and Rob; her brothers, Eric and Drew; her Aunt Lynne and her children, Erin and Ned; and her extended family across New England and beyond. With a family tree made up of both blood ties and deep bonds of the heart, it is important to recognize her special connections with the Cavenaghs, Cannons, Kellys, Ouellettes, Stephensons, Kordishes, Saunders, Carpinos, Allans, and so many others.
Relatives and friends are invited to Ally’s Funeral Mass on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 10 AM at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH - ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA CHURCH, 107 N Main Street, Westford. A Celebration of Ally’s life will follow at the Groton Inn, 128 Main Street, Groton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ally’s memory to NAMI, donate.nami.org, an organization dedicated to mental health awareness, support, and compassionate care, continuing her passion for improving behavioral health for others.
Her light lives on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved.
“Ohana” to you, our beautiful girl.
