Doris Snow Allen Wisnowski, age 101, of Westford, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away at her home on June 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born March 2, 1924, in Boston and grew up in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, with her younger sister Theodosia and loving parents George and Lucy Allen. She was a student of music, studying both piano and violin.
William W. Wisnowski fell in love with Doris and her beautiful auburn hair and the wonderful music she created with her violin. Doris and Bill were married Feb. 22, 1946, and raised five beautiful children: Robert, Janet, William Jr., Bonnie and George. A devoted mother, she drove to Boston weekly to provide her children and several grandchildren the opportunity to take music lessons with the best teachers she could find. They all grew up loving music. She also was adored by her 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Doris enjoyed playing in string quartets with local musicians and participating in community orchestras. One of her claims to fame was playing in the El Paso Symphony in Texas with such famous stars as Benny Goodman and Ella Fitzgerald. An avid gardener, she had beautiful flower gardens that were a feast for the eyes. Doris would offer a tour to anyone who wanted to view them, often sharing cuttings with fellow garden enthusiasts. She also enjoyed fresh and dried flower-arranging.
Doris had a passion for sewing. She designed and made clothing, dolls, quilts and designer handbags. She and her husband often shared a booth at local craft fairs selling her quilted purses and his silver jewelry. Throughout the years, she participated in quilting and sewing groups and maintained lasting friendships with her quilting pals.
She had a life of adventure, living in Massachusetts, Hawaii, New York, Texas and Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. Doris and Bill traveled all over the United States and visited Mexico, Canada, Ireland, England, Portugal, Spain, Bermuda and the Bahamas. Doris met many lifelong friends who loved her until her journey to heaven.
Doris had a heart for the Lord. She was an active participant in community churches, contributing to church fairs, bake sales, flower-arranging, piano accompaniments and violin solos. Doris touched many lives and the memories she has created won’t be forgotten.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, William Walter Wisnowski Sr., and her three sons, Robert Allen Wisnowski, William Walter Wisnowski Jr. and George Edward Wisnowski. She is survived by her sister, Theodosia Dangelo; daughters Janet Seilar Rodrigues and Bonnie Snow Arpin; daughters-in-law Lyn Hottes and Dawna Wisnowski; and sons-in-law Daniel James Rodrigues and Robert Arthur Arpin.
