Westford

Elizabeth Ann Ekberg, 27, passed away peacefully on October 5, surrounded by her loving family after an inspiring and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Boston on November 21, 1998, to Eric and Maryann Ekberg, Elizabeth, affectionately known as Lizzie, grew up in Westford, Massachusetts, and Northport, Maine. She cherished her summers in Bayside on Penobscot Bay, where she spent countless days exploring the shoreline, swimming, sailing, and making lifelong memories with her many friends.

Lizzie graduated from St. Lawrence University in 2021 with a Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy. After college, she began her career in finance in Portland, Maine, where her intelligence, determination, and bright future were quickly evident before her cancer diagnosis.

One of Elizabeth's greatest passions and proudest accomplishments was her lifelong dedication to equestrian sports. From a young age, she demonstrated extraordinary talent and commitment, competing successfully in regional and national competitions. At just 14 years old, she earned the title of Interscholastic Equestrian Association National Champion, a remarkable achievement that reflected her skill, discipline, and love of riding. Throughout her teenage years, Lizzie continued to compete along the East Coast, spending many winters in Wellington, Florida, where she rode alongside some of the nation's top equestrians.

Lizzie had a deep love for animals, especially her horses and the family's beloved dogs. She was known for her kindness, compassion, infectious sense of humor, and radiant smile that could light up any room. She brought joy and laughter wherever she went and touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, grace, and generous spirit.

Above all, Lizzie treasured her family and the people she loved. Her courage throughout her illness inspired everyone around her, and her strength, optimism, and unwavering spirit will never be forgotten.

Elizabeth will be deeply missed by her parents, Eric and Maryann Ekberg; her brothers, Erik and Ethan Ekberg; her fiancé, Lucien Gordley-Smith; her extended family; and her many dear friends.

Relatives and Friends are invited to Elizabeth's Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Hope, 7 Union St, Camden, ME 04843 at 11:00AM on Wednesday October 14th. Burial will follow in Seaview Cemetery, Rockport, Maine. Reception to follow Burial Services at Salt Wharf, 3 Wayfarer Drive, Camden, Maine 04843
