Frederick “Hawk” Bohenko (85), a lifelong resident of Westford, died on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Catherine F. (Donnelly) Bohenko, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Frederick was born in Lowell on June 22, 1937, and was the son of the late Ellen (Holmes) and Walter Bohenko. Frederick was a graduate of the class of 1955 at Westford Academy, where he led the football team as the quarterback to an undefeated season, and the team was later inducted into the school’s hall of fame. He also worked as an offset printer for Murray Printing Company of Forge Village for over 40 years.
Frederick was well-known in all sports, including football, basketball, duckpin bowling, softball and skiing, as well as body surfing at Hampton Beach. One of the trips Frederick loved the most, other than spending time with his family, was his annual trip to the Saratoga Racetrack to enjoy thoroughbred horse racing. He also enjoyed playing cards in his free time.
In addition to his beloved wife Catherine, Frederick is survived and will be deeply missed by his three children: Michael Bohenko and his wife Grace Arruda of Boxboro, Cheri Halberstadt and her husband William of Hampton, NH and Mark Bohenko and his wife Kimberly of Westford; his six grandchildren, Brandon, Billy, Richie, Patrick, Sophia and Alexandra; his five great-grandchildren, Brennah, Kyah, Brooklyn, Lucy and Marisol; his brother, David Bohenko of Dracut; his sister, Jane Hall of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his three brothers, John, Edward and Paul.
Relatives and friends are invited to Frederick’s Celebration of Life on Monday, November 14, 2022 from 8:45 AM until 9:45 AM at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH - ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA CHURCH, 107 N Main Street, Westford. His funeral mass will take place immediately following at 10 AM in the church. Burial to follow in St. Catherine Cemetery, Westford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frederick’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
