James Tyler Marsh

James Tyler Marsh, 79, of Westford, passed away peacefully at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after a long illness.

James was born in 1946, to the late Wallace (Tyler) and Mary (Polly) Marsh. Shortly after graduating high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country from 1968 to 1972 as a Vietnam War veteran and attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Following his military service, James pursued his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a double major in Journalism and American Studies. He combined his sharp intellect and passion for technology into a successful, decades-long career. Over the years, he worked with leading technology and publishing organizations, including IBM, KPMG, Xerox, Wang, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), and the Los Angeles Times. A respected writer and industry expert, he authored and co-authored numerous articles for prominent publications such as Network World, LAN Magazine, and Telecommunications.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, James had a passion for the open road, with a deep love for classic cars and riding motorcycles.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Rizzo; his children, Jesse Marsh and his wife Sara of Rhode Island, Carol Ann and John Schaffer of New Jersey, and Nick of British Columbia; his grandchildren, John and Nicole Schaffer, and Joshua Schaffer; his great-grandson, Johnny; as well as extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his son, Zachary Marsh, and his brother Samuel Marsh.

Relatives and friends are invited to James’ Celebration of Life on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. Burial will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or Project New Hope.
