Richard E. Lawson

March 24, 1929 — January 2, 2014

WESTFORD: Mr. Richard E. Lawson, age 84, a resident of Westford for over 40 years, formerly of Arlington, died on Thursday Jan. 2, 2014, at Emerson Hospital in Concord following a battle with cancer. For 61 years he was the beloved husband of Joan A. (Gauthier) Lawson.

He was born in Arlington on March 24, 1929 son of the late Edwin & Lillian (Hanson) Lawson. Following high school, he served in the US Army for two years.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Mechanical Engineer with Raytheon for 40 years.

Richard was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Westford, where where he was an integral member of the Building Committee which physically transformed the Church into what it is today, and was also very involved with the Food Pantry. Following his retirement from Raytheon, he volunteered at Emerson Hospital in the Cardiac Rehab Unit. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Nabnasset Lake Country Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Laura Lawson of Cross Plains, Texas; two daughters, Paula Diviny of Litchfield, NH, Linda Lawson and her companion, Christopher Moore of Westford; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald & Margaret Lawson of Lexington, and Robert Lawson of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Joshua, Justin and Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Samatha; also several nieces & nephews. He was father-in-law of the late Joseph Diviny.
