Rosalie Josephine (Macchiarola) Johnson, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Emerson Hospital.
She was born on July 17, 1939, in Providence, Rhode Island to Antonio and Emma Macchiarola. The oldest of three children, Rosalie grew up in Johnston, Rhode Island, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School for Girls. She met her beloved husband, Nicholas Johnson, her senior year, and they married in 1960. Together, they had three sons and settled in Sudbury, Massachusetts, where they raised their family, before retiring to Westford, Massachusetts. They were married nearly 59 years.
While Rosalie was a homemaker most of her life, she was employed part-time as a real estate agent and secretary. Later, she worked as an after school teacher for the Sudbury School System, a role she cherished as she loved children. She enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, socializing with neighbors, reading, and volunteering for her church. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and never missed a televised game.
As the mother of three boys, she was ecstatic when her granddaughter was born in 2007. She would babysit frequently, picking her up from school, and they could be found making pizza, gardening, playing with dolls, or reading. She was a proud Nonna and never missed an opportunity to share a picture or story of her granddaughter with family and friends.
Rosalie is survived by her son, Derek, daughter-in-law, Karen, and granddaughter, Isabelle Johnson all of Bedford, Massachusetts; along with several in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Johnson, her sons, Nicholas and David Johnson, her brother, Carlo Macchiarola, and her sister, Ann Johnson.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rosalie’s Funeral Mass on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 10 AM at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH - ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA CHURCH, 107 North Main Street, Westford. Burial will be held privately.
