Thomas Henry “Tom” Cryan, 78, of Westford, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for his independent spirit, good humor, and the many outdoor passions that filled his life.
Tom enjoyed working on Volkswagen bugs, which led him to open the Bug Shop in Bedford, MA. His skill with his hands and love for tinkering on things carried throughout his working life, first as a machinist and later as a brakeman for the Boston & Maine Railroad.
Outside of work, Tom found joy on the water. He loved boating, especially aboard his boat, the Hidee Ho. He loved fishing and cruising out to the Isle of Shoals and surf-casting at Plum Island. Tom was an active member of the Billerica Elks. Whether working on cars, riding his lawn tractor, casting a line, hunting, camping, growing tomatoes or enjoying a day on the boat, Tom brought his unforgettable laugh and smile to the things he loved. He loved everything New England and proudly wore it on his chest and head everyday – Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins & Celtics – the TV was always tuned into sports.
Above all, Tom was a proud Irishman devoted to his family. Family always came first, and he passed that deep sense of love, loyalty, and togetherness down. He loved spending time at the “camp” playing cribbage until all hours, reading the latest Tom Clancy book and bantering with family and friends.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Terry (Todd); loving father of Kerry Ann and her husband, Shawn, Tom and his wife, Kathi, and Kim; grandfather of TJ, Jackie, Mikey, Danny, Shane, Brendan, Sean and Justin; great-grandfather of Elizabeth, Maddie and Norah; brother of Kevin Cryan and the late Dennis, Sandy, Kathy, and Peter; son of the late Brendan and Virginia Cryan.
Family and friends are invited to Tom’s calling hours on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 1 until 4 PM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at BLESSED TRINITY PARISH - ST. CATHERINE OF ALEXANDRIA CHURCH, 107 N Main Street, Westford. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford.
