Thomas “Tommy” Kane, 71, of Phillipston, MA, originally from Forge Village Road, Groton, MA, passed away suddenly on July 4, 2026, leaving many broken hearts.
Tommy was loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and best friend of 47 years to Diane (Wells) Kane; dad and hero to his two daughters, Shannon Kane (Craig Stivers) of Bolton, MA, and Danielle Kane (Mark Favaloro) of York, ME; and loving grandpa to Casey and Finn Becker and Gabrielle Favaloro.
He will be deeply missed by his sisters, Linda (Kane) Rosser (Michael) of Pepperell, MA, Susan Kane (Jeff Bergeron) of Hopkinton, NH, Kathleen (Kane) Gamester (Wayne) of Groton, MA, Lisa (Kane) Whitehead (Rob) of Charlotte, NC, and his brothers, Larry Kane (Sandy) of Westford, MA, Timmy Kane (Bethany) of Groton, MA, and John Kane of Ayer, MA. Tom loved and was proud of his many nieces and nephews. He cherished his cousins and friends.
Tommy attended Nashoba Valley Technical High School and earned his GED from Mount Wachusett Community College. He started working at a young age at the Forge Village Garage for Danny O’Donnell, then worked for many years at Richard Healey’s Paving of Westford. He was hired at Shanklin Corporation (Sealed Air) in Ayer in 1979, where he quickly learned the machinist trade and advanced to CNC machinist. He worked there for 40 years before retiring in 2019.
Tom started dating Diane in 1975, and they were married on April 21, 1979. They built a house in Phillipston through the Farmers Home/Rural Housing Program for first-time homeowners. They were among a group of 8 other young couples who built 9 houses in Phillipston, Templeton, and Gardner. Tom was extremely proud of his house that he built with his own hands. He loved raising his family in Phillipston, where he could take his daughters on adventures in the woods, ice skate on the lake, cross-country ski, and ride snowmobiles on paths he made for them.
Tom could fix anything and often did for his daughters and other family members. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle. He spent his summers at Camp Eaton in York Beach, Maine, where he found a daily passion for surfing and paddleboarding. Tom made many good friends among the surfing community, near and far. When Tom wasn't surfing, he could be seen walking, biking, riding his scooter, or pushing his granddaughter Gabby in her trike along Long Sands Beach. In the winter, Tom stoked his wood stove, fixed things, and watched surfing videos.
Tommy enjoyed life and deeply loved his family. He was greeted in heaven by his father, Lawrence (Cookie) Kane (1979); his brother, Peter Kane (1990); his mother, Matilda (Harris) Kane (2012); his aunt, Sadie Officer (2024); and many other close friends and relatives.
Relatives and friends are invited to Tommy’s Celebration of Life on Monday, July 13, 2026 from 4 until 7 PM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. His funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Westford. Burial will be held privately.
